A Spanish Adventure in Frigiliana, Nerja and Malaga (and a video!)

A SPANISH ADVENTURE IN FRIGILIANA, NERJA AND MALAGA

There was this moment, sitting taller than I had ever felt on the back of my horse Nina that could only be described as complete happiness. We had gently trekked on dusty, stone covered roads with a sheer drop on one side for around an hour, horses testing my heart rate as they nibbled on dandelions at the side of the track and hooves skidded a little on the incline. But we rounded a corner and saw a lush green valley from our tiny snake of a road, looking far out to the blue sea. There were no phones, cameras, stats, social media, scheduling or deadlines to meet, except for our lunch reservation at the nearest restaurant. It was the definition of hitting the reset button, the way that holidays are supposed to be. A chance to explore, try new things, eat exciting foods and drink beers at 10am in the airport because why not? My clouded head fog had lifted, my pretty horse called Nina snorted and then carried me on to lunch, all the while taking in the scenery and trying my best to encourage the grey to leave the flowers alone.

I think it’s important to remember that the point of holidays is to enjoy every moment, because when you touch back down on the tarmac those chances to make memories and not facebook statuses are gone for another year. It’s easy to upload a picture here or a restaurant check in there, but this holiday I tried to focus on the beautiful camera I had in my bag and to exercise its full potential, with a tentative dip into the world of videomaking. I cannot tell you how enjoyable it was to walk around with my Canon around my neck and stumbling upon a cute fountain or capturing a little stomp from a horse’s foot on film. I’m pretty sure everyone was a little fed up with me constantly snapping my lens cover off and on for video clips and pictures, but editing the video at the end of this post with Chris was a wonderful reminder of what a magical holiday and well needed break it was. I won’t ramble on too much, this post is more picture than word led, but I wanted it to serve as a reminder to stop and take pictures and make memories rather than staring at a screen in the glorious sunshine, learning the phrase for ‘do you have wifi’ in Spanish. The restaurants we visited if you are interested are linked in the description box in the video, so if you are planning a trip to southern Spain, I can highly recommend the places we ate. I hope you enjoy the video and please hit subscribe, I enjoyed making this video so much I’ll certainly be making more in the future.
